I used to be a firm believer in New Years Resolutions. I thought that at the stroke of midnight I would start living my life for the better and making changes but inevitably by the second week of January my ideals had tapered off. I never understood why until years later. I realized that I had made all of these end goals without figuring out how I was going to get where I wanted to be. I want to inspire you reading this to not only achieve your goals next year but to start working on them right now.
My first piece of advice is to never doubt the benefits of a plan. It doesn’t have to be set in stone and you don’t even have to know if those steps will work, but making a plan assist you in visualizing the path you need to take to reach your goals, whatever they may be. A plan is like a skeleton. It doesn’t make everything entirely but it is the framework for whatever is about to come into fruition. So map out what you want and figure out all the things you need to fall into place while you are on your way to get it.
Another thing I noticed is that I wasn’t doing anything in the present time to prepare myself for my goals and aspirations. I would just wait until the beginning of the year and attempt to hit the ground running. I wanted to get in shape but I didn’t do any research on what workout style I liked or how I should change up my diet. I wanted to start my blog but I didn’t even have any ideas on how to monetize or what monetization even was. With little to no preparation how was I even expecting to get things done? Preparation is key when it comes to change and achievement. If you want anything new in your life to have a smooth transition you have to prepare for it. Not only will you be ready but you will be less likely to quit when the going gets tough.
Don’t be hesitant to invest in yourself. I know we aren’t all rich, to include myself but when I add up the amount of money I spent on bull shit I could have been investing that into my blog, my YouTube or my college education. The day I realized that the pay out on my investments in myself would be greater than how I felt spending the money at the time, it didn’t bother me to swipe my card or order that new lighting on Amazon, buy my MacBook (which has literally been my other child since 2011), invest in a DSLR camera so I could have good quality videos. If I didn’t make those investments I wouldn’t be where I am today. What are you avoiding investing in that could be that jump start you need to get your goals moving in the right direction? If you aren’t good at saving do what I do. Anytime you get coins put them in a jar don’t spend them and whenever you come across a five dollar bill save it! Those fives add up and the next thing you know you have money to travel, by equipment, go to a seminar or do whatever you have been putting off.
Most importantly never be afraid to ask for help. And no I don’t mean run around with your hand out. I mean ask someone who is already experienced in what you are trying to do for advice. When I was interested in blogging I reached out to an awesome group to get in touch with more bloggers and network and when I wanted to know more about making better videos and lighting I found a YouTuber who taught me so much from a few hours of watching. Now my content is not only good quality but I am now in the process of helping others get to where they want to be without breaking the bank. The only stupid question is the one that is never asked. So don’t let that stop you.
So what are you waiting for? You don’t need to wait until your are hungover from too much champagne or after the New Years kiss of a lifetime. Your goals start right now! The only thing standing in your way is YOU. The New Year won’t make a difference if you aren’t willing to make it happen today. So even if you sit down and make a plan, and do some prep and a little research, or put away five dollars before the first. Each thing is getting you a step closer to achieving your goals and that my friends is always worth it. Be blessed and let me know what your plans are for the Ne
